On 24 September, leaders from across Western Australia’s tourism sector will convene for a pivotal forum to address the strategic challenges and opportunities that will define our industry’s future. The ECU World Tourism Day 2025 event is not merely another industry gathering; it is a critical opportunity for agritourism operators to gain high-level insights into the policies and trends shaping the landscape in which we operate. As the Deputy Chairperson of our association and a panellist at this event, I believe your attendance is an essential investment in the strategic future of your business.

High-Calibre Speakers to Address Critical Industry Challenges

Hosted by Edith Cowan University in partnership with key industry bodies including Tourism WA and Crown, the forum will be guided by the UN Tourism theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.” The agenda directly targets the core operational realities for every WAAA member: climate change, workforce sustainability, environmental management, and community wellbeing. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from the state’s most influential decision-makers on these pressing issues.

The keynote speakers include Di Bain, Chair of Tourism Western Australia, who will provide insight into the state’s strategic direction. She will be joined by Brian Pereira, CEO of Crown Perth, and Angela Beechey, Chair of Women in Tourism and Hospitality WA. The subsequent panel discussion will feature a formidable line-up of industry leaders, including Bradley Woods, CEO of the Australian Hotels Association (WA), and Sonja Mitchell, CEO of Destination Perth.

The Agritourism Perspective: Ensuring Our Sector’s Voice is Heard

I will be participating in the panel discussion to ensure the unique perspective of the Western Australian agritourism sector is central to this conversation. Our businesses operate at the complex intersection of primary production and tourism service delivery. The challenges of land use, environmental stewardship, labour shortages in regional areas, and the need to market authentic rural experiences are distinct from those in the metropolitan hotel or tour sector.

My role will be to represent these realities and advocate for policies and strategies that support the sustainable growth of our sector. Your presence in the audience is crucial. It not only demonstrates the strength and engagement of the agritourism community but also provides you with direct access to the strategic thinking that will influence investment, marketing, and regulatory frameworks for years to come. This is an unparalleled opportunity to inform your own business planning and to network with the leaders who are shaping our industry.
