Prestigious Rural Women’s Award Opens for Nominations, Offering $15,000 Grant

Women leading and innovating within Western Australia’s agritourism sector are strongly encouraged to apply for the 2026 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award, with nominations now officially open. This prestigious national award provides a significant platform for recognising leadership and includes a $15,000 bursary from Westpac to support the winner’s project, business, or program, making it a critical opportunity for WAAA members.

Award Details and Benefits for Operators

The award is designed to celebrate the essential role women play in rural and regional industries, businesses, and communities. Beyond the financial bursary, the program provides access to professional development opportunities and a powerful national network of alumni, offering invaluable connections and support for business growth.

The program is highly relevant to the diverse enterprises within the WAAA membership. An agritourism operator could seek funding to develop a new sustainable tourism experience, launch a value-added product line, or create a community-focused agricultural education program. The award is a vehicle for turning a visionary idea into a tangible, well-funded project.

The 2025 WA winner, Kimberley pastoralist Isabella Thrupp, was recognised for her project to develop an Australian-made clothing business inspired by her experience on northern cattle stations. This serves as a strong example of how agricultural and regional experience can be channelled into an innovative, award-winning enterprise.

Encouragement from Government Ministers

Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis highlighted the award’s potential for professional growth.

“I encourage WA women in our primary industries and other rural industries who want to take their work or project to the next level, and join an extensive alumni network across Australia, to consider putting their hand up for next year’s award,” she said.

For those with projects in the earlier stages of development, Women’s Minister Simone McGurk pointed to an alternative opportunity.

“For those who are still in the project development phase, they can also consider the Rural Women’s Acceleration Grant which can provide a $7,000 bursary to bring their vision to life,” Ms McGurk noted.

Applications for the 2026 AgriFutures Rural Women’s Award close on 7 November 2025. This award represents a significant opportunity for the talented and entrepreneurial women within the WAAA membership to gain recognition and secure vital funding for their innovative projects.
